Prof. Rudolf J. WEHMSCHULTE

Florida Institute of Technology, USA

"Cationic Group 13 Compounds in Different Oxidation States: Synthesis and Reactivity"

Biography

Dr. Wehmschulte obtained his Diplom (M.S. equivalent) and Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) in Chemistry at the Westfälische Wilhelms Universität in Münster, Germany, in 1988 and 1991, respectively. After a postdoctoral stay with Prof. Phil Power at the University of California in Davis, CA, which was funded initially by a grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG, (German Research Society, an NSF equivalent) he moved to the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, as assistant professor in1998. From there he moved to his current position at the Florida Institute of Technology in 2005. His research interests are in the area of main group organometallic chemistry covering synthesis, catalysis and precursors for materials. Current projects include the synthesis of very strong Lewis acids, which have been shown to catalyze the reduction of CO2 to methane, and the investigation of the properties of low oxidation state group 13 compounds.
